Gallery Development Manager

Working closely with the Director of Gallery Relations (US/Europe) and reporting directly to the Fair Director (and indirectly to the Global Director), Gallery Development Manager will play a key role in the overall success of Tokyo Gendai. The position will focus particularly on gallery sales support through email campaigns, telephone communication, and face-to-face meetings as well as developing and implementing gallery sales strategies in collaboration with the Fair Director.

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic art-world professional with a
strong drive to meet and exceed targets. The ideal candidate will have a solid understanding of the international art market and the role art fairs play, with a particular emphasis on Asia. This role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong organisational and communication skills, and confidence in using digital CRM systems. The successful candidate will be a collaborative team player with a flexible mindset and the ability to perform effectively under pressure.

Key Responsibilities

Duties & Repsonsibilities

  • Deliver exceptional account management for all gallery relationships, using the CRM system to maintain accurate and up-to-date client records while developing a deep understanding of gallery histories
  • Manage data entry and ongoing maintenance of gallery records within the CRM
    system; build dashboards to generate statistics and sales reports
  • Conduct research and prepare sales and presentation materials
  • Provide timely, considered follow-up communications to build trust and develop
    strong relationships with prospective galleries
  • Support Gallery Liaison teams across the portfolio as required
  • Attend weekly sales meetings with clear awareness of objectives, actively participate in discussions, produce weekly reports, and ensure follow-up actions are completed and reviewed
  • Research and benchmark art fair participation fees, maintaining accurate and current records
  • Develop and manage gallery target lists to encourage participation and future engagement across the fair portfolio
  • Maintain regular communication with target galleries attending each fair and coordinate their on-site programmes
  • Undertake international travel as required

  • Fluency in Japanese is required; professional working proficiency in English is essential
  • Personable and enthusiastic, with a proactive and positive “can-do” attitude; a true team player
  • Sociable and comfortable representing the organisation at industry events

Trial Period: 3 months

Office Hours: 9:00 – 17:00 (in-office 3 days/week, flex hours allowed)
Office Location: 5 minutes walk from Kamiyacho Station (Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line)
Holidays: Weekends, national holidays, end-of year
Paid Time Off: 10 days annually
